Delightfully Dutch

A new Dutch cottage celebrates architectural diversity while making the most of its lot

When a young family decided to build a home on a narrow site in the architecturally eclectic neighborhood of Southgate, they hoped to make the most of the lot without sacrificing the yard. A diversity of forms were explored in order create efficient spaces while still building a memorable identity and unique pride of ownership. Thoughtfully and creatively, the second floor was designed a little bigger than the first to preserve outdoor ground space. Slightly smaller bedrooms coupled with larger, more open and flexible living spaces contribute to the value and utility of the house as the family moves through its various phases.
