Strong materials in handsome finishes—clean and simple

For this new contemporary home in Los Altos Hills, FGA invested in features made of first-class materials that would stand the test of time from both an aesthetic and practical perspective. Outside, a gray standing seam metal roof crowns the structure wrapped in velvety-textured stucco. Its soft white hue is juxtaposed by windows and doors with dark wooden headers. At the entry, a large pivot door opens to a gracious foyer that divides the home’s public and private zones.

At the heart of the public zone is an expansive great room with soaring vaulted ceilings. It is anchored by a white oak paneled fireplace with textured black metal surround. The great room is flanked by walls of French doors that lead out to the front porch and lawn to one side and to the pool and covered patio to the other. The lofty great room extends into the kitchen with graphic gold-veined white marble finishes and white oak cabinetry. A separate home office and mudroom outfitted with custom storage work hard for this family of four with two teenage sons.

The private zone consists of two stories joined together by a chic white oak staircase with floating treads. The ground floor boasts a spacious guest suite that replicates the footprint of the primary suite located directly above it. Its placement allows easy access for guests and provides the homeowners with a feasible option for aging in place.
