By righting architectural wrongs, an Italianate’s previously obscure layout becomes light-filled and livable
Having endured multiple renovations since its construction, this 1920s Italianate home was in need of a fresh start. An inefficient floorplan included a kitchen that was four half-levels above the dining room and living room. FGA relocated the kitchen and infused it with Mediterranean flavor to honor the home’s heritage. Cabinetry, open-shelving, and seating were built into warm stucco walls, and a one-of-kind found table was repurposed into a kitchen island. The addition of bi-fold windows and a rooftop terrace allowed the home to capitalize on panoramic views of the towering redwood trees and Stanford’s open land.
