KRISTEN LOMAX is thoughtful and gracious in her architecture approach – creating finely crafted and timeless designs harmonious with the landscapes around them.
As a partner at FGA, Kristen leads the design process on her projects. She approaches each one individually based on how the client lives and the context of the site. One of Kristen’s greatest strengths is listening, so by the end of the project she knows her clients well and has collaborated with them to create their forever home. Her diligent work ethic, close relationships with local cities, and network of reliable consultants support the success of the design solutions. Kristen takes pride in carefully studying and reviewing each detail to ensure a holistic vision.
When people ask Kristen where she is from, it isn’t a simple answer. Her parents were both university professors so she was raised immersed in an academic environment and had the opportunity to live and learn in various cities across the US. Early exposure to a variety of architectural styles solidified her love of architecture – from the New England shingle style, to the Midwest craftsmen, to the New Orleans Victorian.
She earned a Master’s degree in Architecture with a Minor in Urban Sociology from Tulane University in New Orleans. In 2005, the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina called her to volunteer to help rebuild the houses lost and provided her with valuable construction experience. Upon graduating, Kristen received the Tulane 34 Award – the most coveted university-wide honors for exemplary leadership, service, and academic excellence.
Kristen enjoys serving the community and has held volunteer positions on various local and national architectural committees. She was secretary of the San Mateo chapter of the AIA and chair of the scholarship committee. Kristen enjoyed getting to know aspiring architecture students and giving educational grants. She was also a board member for the Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN), a national organization that facilitates professional development and knowledge sharing across the residential design field.
Outside of FGA, Kristen spends her time chasing around her active daughter and spending time with her husband. They enjoy traveling to new places, cooking together, and doing art projects as a family.
“I’m one of those lucky people who gets to go into the office everyday and do what I love. I’m passionate about architecture and find inspiration in the places I have traveled, in precedents of great architects, and in the talented people I work with.’
